Q: When does football practice start?
A: Football practice starts July 30, 2012. We will practice 4 to 5 days a week for
the first 3 weeks, then drop down to practice 3 days a week. Practice is
scheduled from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, but may extend until 8:00pm prior to the
start of school. Once School begins, practice will end promptly at 7:30pm.
Q: Is the 1st week of practice critical?
A: Yes, the first week of practice is extremely critical. Mid-State League
requirements state that there must be 4 days of conditioning prior to the first
day of full contact. If your child misses any one of the first 4 days of practice,
they will be forced to condition while the remainder of the team is engaging in
full contact. Unfortunately vacations often fall during the last week of July - 1st
week of August; we ask that you make every possible effort to coordinate
vacations to allow full participation during this timeframe.
Q: What kind of time commitment is to be expected with Football?
A: Football is a contact sport and requires a great deal of practice in order to
ensure the safest experience possible. I would consider football to be a very
time intensive sport, and a commitment must be made to fully engage for the 3
months necessary.
Q: Where will practice be held?
A: Practice for the 2012 season will be held at the Gloryland Church of the
Nazarene, located at 3570 Coonpath Road in Carroll. They have agreed
to donate the use of the field in the rear of the church for our kids to
use for football and cheerleading practices for our 2011 season.

Q: Can parents drop kids off at practice and leave?
A: Coaches encourage parents to stay at practice to watch their children
whenever possible. If a parent needs to drop off their child and
depart, please keep the weather in mind. If thunderstorms are
predicted, please be available to pick your child up if practice is
cancelled.
Q: As a parent, can I offer additional coaching to the players?
A: No. The Head Coach and Assistant Coaches are designated to instruct
the children. If you are a parent on the sideline, please encourage the
children and the team through positive reinforcement. If you wish to
discuss a coaching opportunity, please contact your Head Coach.
Q: What equipment is provided by the organization?
A: The player’s helmet, mouthpiece (1), chin strap, shoulder pads, game
pants, game belt, equipment bag, and game jersey will be provided.
The game jersey is the only item that is “yours to keep”; all other
equipment must be turned in at the conclusion of the season.
Q: When is the season over?
A: The season is concluded in Mid-October. Date “TBD” based on playoff
schedules.
Q: How much playing time should my son expect?
A: Although a set amount of playing time is not pre-determined in the MSL (Mid-
State League), nor are their requirements set forth by the BCBA organization,
each Head Coach is ultimately responsible for playing time. Playing time is not
a guarantee. A big part of the decision in playing time relies on the child’s
dedication to the team. As a philosophy, we (the coaches) are preparing the
boys for the next level of play, therefore the expectation is that as a child
progresses through the levels Prep, Junior Varsity, then finally Varsity the
playing time can become more selective as the level of competition increases.
This philosophy will support the model in place at the JR High level and
preparing our kids is at the foremost of our concerns. Coaches employ several
methods to help balance playing time. Such methods are “The Platoon System”
and “One Way Players”, which assist in better balancing playing time for our
athletes.
Q: As a parent, what equipment needs to be purchased?
A: The following items are required: Practice pants, girdle, thy pads, knee pads,
hip & tail bone pads, practice jersey, water bottle, and football cleats. Although
a cup is not required, it is strongly recommended.
Q: Do we bring water bottles to games?
A: The BCBA organization provides water for all games. If you choose to bring
additional water for your child, please take it with you into the stands. The
players should not bring additional water onto the game field.
Q: How can my player receive medication if needed? ( Example : Asthma)
A: Parents are encouraged to watch each practice from the sidelines. If
medication is needed, the parent can administer as needed. If a parent is not
at the field the parent must make arrangements with the coach to discuss
medical conditions/needs, provide the necessary medication, and inform the
child who to contact in the event medication is required.
Q: Where will we play our home games?
A: We will play all home games on the Bloom-Carroll High School field. Games
are scheduled to occur on Sundays. There may be an opportunity to have a
Saturday night game, but at this point is still “TBD” based on MSL scheduling.
Q: How can I sponsor the program?
A: Visit our new web site www.bcbafootball.org
and click on the “Contact Us” link.
Q: Do you provide directions to away games?
A: Directions to each away school will be updated on the MSL web site. Visit
http://leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=midstateohio and click
the “Directions” link.
Q: Are scores and rankings posted after each game?
A: Yes, please visit the same MSL web site:
http://leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=midstateohio
Q: Do we practice if it’s raining?
A: Yes. If it’s raining we ask that all players show up to practice, and then as
conditions evolve, the decision will be made to play or cancel. The BCBA has
been succesful using email which enables the coaches to send updates quickly.
If you don't have a smartphone with email capability then please be sure to give a
valid phone number(s) (Cell and/or home) . We recommend that you stay at or
close to the practice fields when storms are favorable as we may have to cancel
practice suddenly and we don't have access to the church for shelter after they leave.
Q: Is there a requirement to bring in drinks as a donation in 2011?
A: No, The BCBA has discontinued this effort.
Q: Is there a requirement to work in the concession stand?
A: Although working in the concession stand is not required, it is greatly
appreciated. The BCBA has already created a concession sign-up sheet, which
parents can select their preferred times to assist. We will have 4 home games this
year, with 3 games each day (Prep, JV, & Varsity). The 5th home game will be a
playoff game, which will include 2 games (JV & Varsity).
Q: Will there be a Parent Orientation Meeting prior to the 2012 season?
A: Yes. The Parent Orientation Meeting is an excellent forum to communicate
information and open communication lines between coaches and parents. The
meeting will be scheduled for the week prior to practice starting.
